About.

The Student Environment Centre (SEC) is a resource group mandated by the University of British Columbia Alma Mater Society (UBC AMS) to provide environmental and sustainability resources for the UBC community. We are actively involved in organizing, promoting, and supporting various initiatives that critically examine the interactions between humans and the environment.

Education

We organize a number of workshops and discussion sessions promoting environmental awareness throughout the year. Please follow our Instagram @secubc to remain up-to-date about events and initiatives.

Support for Student Initiatives

Some of the resources we offer include funding, volunteers, and event promotion for projects that address environmental and sustainability issues. Learn more about the SEC Eco-Initiatives Fund at Funding. If you would like to promote your event on our social media channels, please send an email to sec.ubc@gmail.com with all the relevant details.

Location

The Student Environment Centre office is located in Room 2106 (within the Resource Lounge, Room 2102) of the AMS Student Nest. The Resource Lounge is located above Honour Roll Sushi, or straight off the elevator next to the Hatch Art Gallery.

UBC Free Store

The UBC Free Store is a volunteer-run collective of students that can be found in the Sustainabilty Hallway in Room 0021 across from the entrance to the ARC gym. We are dedicated to reusing, reducing, and recycling goods, clothing, and products within the UBC community to support fellow students and challenge the disposable consumer culture. Currently looking for volunteers; let us know if you would be interested by emailing sec.ubc@gmail.com.
