Events Funded By SEC

This year, SEC funded 21 events from 15 organizations/individuals.

SEC-Hosted Events

SEC hosted 6 events this year! 

In December, we hosted the SECsi Social, bringing together environmental groups on campus to mix, meet each other, and talk about what we’ve all been up to. It was a super fun and relaxing way to wrap up the year before finals. In the second semester, we hosted two more SECsi Socials, one in January and one in April. 

We also organized a clothing swap along with the UBC Free Store in January. The clothing swap let people pick up some cool new pieces without needing to buy new, which helps reduce a lot of waste. Excess items were put in the Free Store for the UBC community to pick up and stop from going to landfills or sitting in the back of a closet forever.

In March, we organized a joint film screening with the UBC Film Society. We screened How to Blow Up a Pipeline and they screened The Lorax as a double feature. Named after the book, How to Blow Up a Pipeline strays from its source material and is a fictional story about environmental activists blowing up a pipeline and their various reasons for doing it. 

Also in March, we ran our Mending & Patchwork Social as part of AMS Sustainability Week, again in collaboration with the Free Store. Attendees were able to mend and sew their clothes and make their own patches using supplies provided by SEC.

Financial Overview

SEC received a total of $20,000 this fiscal year; $16,000 in the first semester and $4,000 in the second semester.

SEC spent $14,248.76 during the year. Approximately $12,500 was used as grants for various campaigns and initiatives from other organizations. The remaining $1,748.76 was spent on food for the socials, mending supplies, and office supplies.

SEC had no campaigns or initiatives this year, however SEC funded various campaigns and initiatives done by other organizations.
